400,000 homes to be powered by North Wales wind farm

A 160 turbine offshore wind farm is to be constructed off the coast of Llandudno in North Wales. The 2 billion Euro Gwynt y Mor project will produce 576 megawatts of green energy – enough to power approximately 400,000 homes in the local area.

A Proven Energy 2.5 Turbine on a good site with wind speeds over the range of 4.5m/s to 6.5m/s annually will deliver between 2500kWh and 5000kWh approximately.
Given the average annual UK household electrical energy consumption (3 bedrooms) is 4600kWh. This size of turbine is ideally suited to many households that want to use the energy they produce themselves rather than export significant amounts.
