Our mission is to improve firefighter training and safety
Less CO2 design and install custom training facilities that prepare firefighters for real world scenarios.
We started in the wind industry
In 2007, we began installing and maintaining wind turbines in the UK. Our idea was to match a simple solution with unrivalled service. By 2016, Less CO2 had established a fleet of 72 turbines.
In 2013 we entered the training market. Rescue 3 Europe accredited us for a range of courses developed for the wind industry. The courses include ‘working at height’, ‘co-worker rescue’ and courses for ‘emergency responders’.
Our time in the wind industry
During our time in the wind industry, we continually refined our process, doing our best work in active partnership with our clients. Combined with our experience training emergency responders, we were a natural fit for training facility installation.
Recognised for our training work
In 2016, the Energy Institute Awards shortlisted our Emergency Responders course. We were proud to be finalists of the Health and Safety award category.
Our training facility at Staffordshire Fire Service
In 2015, the UK government made significant policy changes. Onshore wind subsidies ceased, so we focused on the fire training market. Our strengths are in engineering, training, and safety. Developing better training facilities for the emergency services was a perfect fit.
In 2016, we built a multi-function training facility for Staffs Fire and Rescue. By providing a safe, realistic training environment. Our real-fire facility better prepares Staffordshire's firefighters for real emergencies.
We look forward to welcoming The Earl of Wessex to open the Villa; a fantastic addition to our training toolkit for existing and newly recruited firefighters. As the Service continues to transform we must ensure our training provisions keep in line with national procedures and guidelines. The Villa has been designed to support these changes, delivering improved and safer training for modern methods of firefighting. It will also minimise the cost implications of sourcing external training.Becci BryantChief Officer of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service
Director & Company Founder
John Neilson is the founder of Less CO2. He previously worked in the pharmaceuticals industry as a project manager and control and instrumentation engineer and had a strong interest in the then-emerging small wind market leading to him setting up the company in 2007.
Having led Less Co2 Limited since inception, John has gained a wealth of experience managing wind and engineering projects over the last 11 years.
Better training for our emergency services
We are continuing to develop training facilities for the emergency services. Our current focus is on a range of individual Fire Training containers, which will be available to hire. These include Single Attack, Demo, Confined Space, and Smoke Solution options. These can be customised for the Police Services too e.g. forensics and sniffer dog training facilities.
We also regularly review our ‘Emergency Responders’ Wind Turbine Access (WTAFER) courses which are well received by Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) NHS paramedics.
